It’s nice to know that when it comes to recognizing a good story, spark360 has something in common with one of the nation’s biggest newspapers.

Recently the spark360 team prepared a feature on Rodney Anderson, a Dallas-area mortgage banker who has proposed his own legislation that he says will bring a sense of order and justice to credit scores. Right now, any medical debts remain on a borrower’s credit report for seven years – even if that debt has been paid or settled. That can impact whether or not an average person can borrow enough money to buy a house, or refinance to take advantage of lower interest rates.

But Anderson has proposed HR 3421 – the Medical Debt Relief Act – which would cut that time down from seven years to thirty days. Anderson, who hosts a weekly radio show and has a new book coming out, has spent nearly a half-billion dollars of his own money to hire lobbyists to get the bill through Congress. But he’s done it as a private citizen – not as the head of his own mortgage banking company.

His efforts were recently featured in a USA Today article profiling Anderson and other private citizens who are trying to navigate the ways of Washington to pass legislation that they feel will help a wide range of Americans.  You can read it here: http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/2010-05-31-private-lobbyists_N.htm

And be on the lookout for our spark360 feature on Rodney Anderson and his unique story.

  1. Gary D. Swaim Says:

Anderson’s efforts are highly laudable, the story compelling, and ultimately of great benefit to many people. I was fortunate. Following an extended hospitalization and 54-day coma, I was released with remarkable medical costs beyond imagination. Through Medicare and supplemental insurance, all of my bills were paid. . .and, on time. Had that not been the case, our family’s life would have been shattered. Many persons have experienced a very different fortune than I,and, through no fault of their own, encountered unspeakable financial dilemmas. Great praise for Mr. Anderson’s efforts. I am old enough to REMEMBER Jimmy Stewart and his Herculean effort in D.C. May Anderson’s results match Stewart’s.
